The Many Faces of Bryan Wooten

Bryan Wooten was over-matched and his facial expressions were telling.

'What the hell is he doing over there?'

'Oh, not again.'

'What time does the lunch buffet shut down?'

'Some days you shouldn't get out of bed.'

Bryan Wooten lost to Artem Sitak in this match at the Little Rock Futures tennis tournament.

The Artem Sitak Machine Rolls On

Artem Sitak.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Artem Sitak is the number one seed in the St. Vincent Auxiliary Men's Professional Tennis Tournament and perhaps the most seasoned and tested player in this Futures tournament.

Artem Sitak has won a championship at the Futures level -- McAllen last month -- and Bryan Wooten is a qualifier at this Little Rock Futures tournament; the difference in their level of competition was evident.

Sitak dispatched Wooten 6-2, 6-3.

Player Gives Insight on Tennis Tour

Sydney Jim has been playing in Futures tennis tournaments in places like Guatemala. He played in the qualifying round of the Valley Baptist Health System Harlingen Country Club $15,000 Futures tennis tournament in Harlingen, Texas.

Jim posts his results and exploits on the internet and gives an insight of what the players endure on the tour. He lives in Houston and bemoans the fact that it is difficult to find a partner to practice with because the players have to work all day as instructors to tennis hackers. Even on the rare chance he finds someone available to practice with, he finds that the player is tired from working all day as an instructor.

Jim described his training routine: "I usually do three miles in the morning, then I have a hitting session with Bryan (Wooten). This is usually consisted of the basic crosscourts, volleys, off the ground points, serves, service points, etc...Then I do my weight training, I used to do the old boxing training circuit training, but I gained too much weight from that so I do more core work and freeweights now on the fitness ball.

"As for fitness I do a lot of jump rope and sprints occassionally. I'm pretty stupid fast as it is so I find it stupid to tear up my legs doing countless sprints a day, instead I focus more on reaction and fast twitch excercises."
